Sealing: The piston ring can seal the gas, prevent the gas from the combustion chamber from leaking into the crankcase, control the gas leakage to the minimum, and improve thermal efficiency. Air leakage not only reduces the power of the engine, but also causes the oil to deteriorate.
Adjusting the engine oil: The piston ring can scrape off excess lubricating oil on the cylinder wall, while leaving a thin oil film on the cylinder wall to ensure normal lubrication of the cylinder, piston, and ring.
Heat conduction: The piston rings can also provide cooling to the cylinder liner by conducting the heat from the piston.
Guidance: The piston ring keeps the piston in the cylinder, preventing direct contact between the piston and the cylinder wall, ensuring smooth movement of the piston, reducing frictional resistance, and preventing the piston from knocking the cylinder.
The material of piston rings is generally metal elastic rings, such as steel or cast iron, and their wear resistance and fatigue resistance can be improved through various processing treatments, such as nitriding rings, chrome plated rings, phosphating rings, etc. According to the different types and operating conditions of the engine, suitable piston ring materials can be selected.
